聖路加福音1:57-66,80

依撒伯爾滿了產期，就生了一個兒子。她的鄰居和親戚聽說上主向她大施仁慈，都和她一同歡樂。到了第八天，人們來給這孩子行割損禮，並願意照他父親的名字叫他匝加利亞。他的母親說：「不，要叫他若翰。」他們就同她說：「在你親族中沒有叫這個名字的。」他們便給他的父親打手勢，看他願意叫他什麼。他要了一塊小板，寫道：「若翰是他的名字。」眾人都驚訝起來。匝加利亞的口和舌頭立時開了，遂開口讚美天主。於是，所有的鄰居都滿懷敬畏之情；這一切事就傳遍了全猶大山區，凡聽見的人都將這事存在心中，說：「這孩子將成為什麼人物啊？」因為上主的手與他同在。這小孩漸漸長大，心神堅強。他住在荒野中，直到他在以色列人前出現的日期。

依撒意亞先知書49:1-6

諸島嶼，請聽我！遠方的人民，請靜聽！上主由母腹中就召叫了我，自母胎中就給我起了名字。他使我的口好似利劍，將我掩護在他的手蔭下，使我像一支磨光的箭，將我隱藏在他的箭囊中。他對我說：你是我的僕人，是我驕矜的「以色列」。但是我說：「我白白勤勞了，我枉費了氣力而毫無益處；但是我的權利是在上主那裏，我的報酬在我的天主面前。」我在上主眼中是光榮的，天主是我的力量。那由母胎形成我作他的僕人，將雅各伯領回到他前，並把以色列聚在他前的上主，如今說：「你作我的僕人，復興雅各伯支派，領回以色列遺留下的人，還是小事，我更要使你作萬民的光明，使我的救恩達於地極。」

宗徒大事錄13:22-26

保祿說：「天主給以色列人立了達味為君王，天主為他作證說：我找到了葉瑟的兒子達味，他是一個合我心意的人，他要履行我的一切旨意。天主按照恩許，從他的後裔中給以色列興起了一位救主耶穌。若翰在他來臨以前，先向全以色列民宣講了悔改的洗禮。及至若翰將完成自己的任務時，說道：我不是你們所猜想的那位，但是，看，他在我以後要來，我不配解他腳上的鞋。諸位仁人弟兄，亞巴郎的子孫和你們敬畏天主的人！這救恩之道正是給我們賜下的。」

今天教會慶祝「聖若翰洗者誕辰」，在今日的聖言中，我們可以知道洗者若翰真正是天主所派來的先知，更是天主親自為耶穌所預備的，好讓我們從聖若翰的作證中，相信耶穌就是那位要來的。在福音中，我特別注意到「這小孩漸漸長大，心神堅強」這的確是聖若翰的行徑，他為了親近天主而進入了曠野，在當中穿著毛皮、飲野蜜，一付怪人的樣子，絲毫無懼他人的眼光，一心只求天主。他的心神堅強在曠野中養成，也在小黑落德的宮廷上被印證。小黑落德聽聞若翰的智慧，特別邀他入宮來，也被他的話所打動，但小黑落德王就沒有那份「心神堅強」，隨便允諾撒洛美的要求，斬首了聖若翰，讓聖若翰成了首批的殉道者之一。

在今天的祈禱中，我特別把我的軟弱擺上，天主知道我真是心神不堅定的可以，求天主聖神也同樣堅固我的心思意念，也賴聖母媽媽的轉求。阿們。

Gospel
Lk 1:57-66, 80

When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child
she gave birth to a son.
Her neighbors and relatives heard
that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her,
and they rejoiced with her.
When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child,
they were going to call him Zechariah after his father,
but his mother said in reply,
"No. He will be called John."
But they answered her,
"There is no one among your relatives who has this name."
So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called.
He asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name,"
and all were amazed.
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,
and he spoke blessing God.
Then fear came upon all their neighbors,
and all these matters were discussed
throughout the hill country of Judea.
All who heard these things took them to heart, saying,
"What, then, will this child be?"
For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.
The child grew and became strong in spirit,
and he was in the desert until the day
of his manifestation to Israel.

Reading 1
Is 49:1-6

Hear me, O coastlands,
listen, O distant peoples.
The LORD called me from birth,
from my mother's womb he gave me my name.
He made of me a sharp-edged sword
and concealed me in the shadow of his arm.
He made me a polished arrow,
in his quiver he hid me.
You are my servant, he said to me,
Israel, through whom I show my glory.

Though I thought I had toiled in vain,
and for nothing, uselessly, spent my strength,
yet my reward is with the LORD,
my recompense is with my God.
For now the LORD has spoken
who formed me as his servant from the womb,
that Jacob may be brought back to him
and Israel gathered to him;
and I am made glorious in the sight of the LORD,
and my God is now my strength!
It is too little, he says, for you to be my servant,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob,
and restore the survivors of Israel;
I will make you a light to the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.

Reading II
Acts 13:22-26

In those days, Paul said:
"God raised up David as king;
of him God testified,
I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart;
he will carry out my every wish.
From this man's descendants God, according to his promise,
has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus.
John heralded his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance
to all the people of Israel;
and as John was completing his course, he would say,
'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he.
Behold, one is coming after me;
I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.'

"My brothers, sons of the family of Abraham,
and those others among you who are God-fearing,
to us this word of salvation has been sent."
